My new Podcast!

I decided that as a tribute to my absolute favourite book series (Sookie Stackhouse) and show (TrueBlood) I would make a podcast! It's called BloodLust and it will be updated every seven to ten days. Eventually there will be guest speakers, more music and sound clips from the show and much more! so take a listen and enjoy!

My Cat and the Squirrel

So today my cat and a squirrel in the backyard decided to have a showdown this morning. Zorro jumped onto the squirrel and the squirrel BIT HIM. And then ran away. It was the funniest thing I have ever seen. Unfortunatly I think my cat took out his rage on the rodents by getting a chipmunk in his mouth and trying to kill it. Thank goodness my mom yelled at him to put it down and the chippy escaped to safety. Circle of life much? Or is momma just a savior to the rodents of my backyard? Who knows. But I do know that my cat got beat by a squirrel... how pathetic. Oh, cat...

So Excited! Fave Author's Got a New Book!

For those of you who like vampires but thought the Twilight Saga was too sparkly and lovey-dovey... I have a series for you! Most of you vamp lovers out there probably already know about Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse novels, aka The Southern Vampire Mysteries. The first one is called Dead Until Dark.
They are the books that inspires the HBO series TrueBlood.
I LOVE these books, and the show! I have all the books except for the most recent one (waiting for it to come out in paperback), and the first season of TrueBlood on DVD. They are great because they are easy to read in a couple days but still very entertaining. They aren't meant for teens, so there's not a whole lot of overly gushy romance scenes. Just blood and guts, the way it should be.
The next book is called Dead in the Family and comes out May 4th.

Alice In Wonderland

I saw Alice in Wonderland in 3D on friday night with some friends... we ended up getting stuck in the first row. So I did like the movie, but I think I'm going to have to see it again because I didn't really get to absorb the awesome special effects. Plus I got a neck ache and felt sick about half way through as a result of my viewing angle. It was still really good! I liked Tim Burton's spin on it and it was nothing like the origional... more like a sequel. But I'm not giving anything away! Go see it yourself!
The Cheshire Cat in the 1951 cartoon used to scare me so much when I was little, and the queen. They aren't so scary in the new one, but I would not take any little kids. There were some scary scenes and also some scary monsters (if you're about 5). It was really good movie and not what I expected at all!

Roller Skating!

I recently decided that to get fit and have a great time doing it, I would start rollerskating. It was fun as a kid, and I really think it will still be fun. There used to be a roller rink in Cambridge (where I live) called The Forum. But then it closed down and turned into a discount store. :(
So I decided to look online for some roller skates. Not rollerblades! I'm talking the old school quad skates they use in roller derby. I found two sites: www.rollergirl.ca and www.rollerbug.com. (both are based in Canada) They both offer high quality roller skates. I think I want a pair of Riedell skates. I'm going to be skating outdoors on roads and the running track at a local high school, so I'm getting a pair more suitable to outdoor skating. As soon as the snow melts, I'm on a roll! (haha) Hopefully my legs will get stronger and I'll fit into a smaller jean size!

My cat Zorro is so weird. I've had a few cats in my lifetime but he is something else. It's like he's the cat version of Marley from the movie Marley & Me. Worst Cat Ever, but I love him like he's my child. He is my child. Here's just a few things he does that earn him this title.
The Drooling
My cat drools. Yes. In the morning at the first sign of life from anyone in the house, he hops up into their bed and demands to be petted while drooling everywhere. It's pretty gross. And it drips everywhere.
The Chasing/Stalking
He follows us around, stalking our legs and waiting for the perfect opportunity to pounce on us. And when he does pounce, he will use teeth and claws against you. I have many scars on my legs from this. It's not fun.
The Bitting
When Zorro gets all snuggly and cuddly, it's just a cover for what's about to come. He's sitting in your lap, smushing his face into you, purring, maybe drooling, and then BAM! He bites you. Just holds on with his teeth. Sometimes he doesn't even bite, more just nibbles.
Loosing Collars
My cat is allowed the joys of the outside world because we don't live on a busy street and because he would destroy the furniture in the house if he didn't get to climb trees and such. But he looses his collars! He is only a little over a year, and I've only had him for a year, but he's on his fourth collar. Yeah. And for a spoiled cat like Zorro, this can be expensive. Luckily his last collar I got on sale and is reflective so that he can go out at night. (I don't like it when he goes out at night because he's solid black and I can't see him) I do not know what he's doing out there... when he comes home without a collar on it's like seeing your kid walk in naked after you don't know where they've been. I know I'm slightly exaggerating but when you don't have kids your cat is just that big of a deal.
All in all? I love my cat. But he's mean, annoying, loud, demanding, and perfect. He even has the same hair and eye colour as me. :)

Am I allowed to wear Graphic T's?

I am slightly concerned about my wardrobe. I have an abundance of clothing, that's not the big issue right now. It's that I recently saw a video on youtube about how graphic t shirts are socially awkward. I don't war them everyday... just maybe once or twice a week. My favourite graphic T's include an AC/DC shirt, a Panic! at the Disco Shirt, I Heart NY, a few Transformers shirts, and a weird shirt with hand prints over my... ta tas. But I don't wear that one to school anymore. Well, occasionally I do, but not often.
I never thought this was a bad collection of shirts until I realized that not only is the guy in the youtube video kind of correct, but I'm going to be 20 in about two weeks.
Now I'm scared, because although I don't really think I need to change my clothes, I know my mom might have other ideas. But I'm a college student! I should wear whatever I want, right?
If I want to wear an Optimus Prime shirt, I totally should. It's a great shirt, really. And if it's socially awkward or age- inappropriate, screw it! I'm wearing it anyway. But when will I have to stop wearing graphic t's? 21? 22? 40? Who knows!

Vancouver 2010 Olympics, I don't know what to say.
I was so excited that we were hosting the games. After the weird opening ceremonies (Didn't really understand the boy on wires flying through the air over "wheat") I was still excited.
After we won our first gold, I was jumping for joy.
When the women's hockey team slaughtered Slovakia, I was giddy.
When we only got silver in snowboard-cross, I was miffed but still happy that we placed.
I went out and bought my red mittens the day the olympics started. I also got a T-shirt.
But the only thing I was waiting for was the USA vs. Canada hockey game. I could not wait to watch us beat them on our ice, in OUR sport.
And now the game is over... and the final score was 5-3. For the USA.
I am so upset! I thought we would win! I was sure we would kick butt! Like my favourite Coca Cola commercial, I was positive we would "make sure they knew who's game they were playing". And at the same time, I knew the US was our biggest competition.

I knew they were good... I knew it would be a tough game.

My heart is broken.... we'll be hearing about this one for years. UNLESS we win on TUESDAY!!! Against Russia!
And then make a huge comeback and play for Gold! I know we are in 6th place, but I won't give up on us! I will wear my shirt and mittens! I will cheer! I will watch that game and invite all my friends to watch it with me!
Let's GO! Let's WIN!

Chai Tea Latte Anyone?

Recently I decided I spend a ridiculous amount of money at Starbucks. And I almost always get the same thing: A Chai Tea Latte. This runs me up at $4.75-ish. I decicded to see if I could re-create the coveted Starbucks Chai Tea Latte at home.
I went to Zerhs and purchased some Chai tea bags for about $4. I've tried two teabags - Lipton and Tetly. I did like the Lipton better, but for a bigger cup I ended up using two bags instead of one. Then I needed a milk frother. You can go all out and buy a Bodum glass hand pump frother for about $30 on amazon, or you cay buy a small electric frother for about $4 from Ikea. I happen to have both at my house.
If I'm just making one latte for myself, I use the small electric frother. But for more than one cup, I do use the bigger hand pump one. It's also fun to froth the milk yourself. :)
My home-made lattes were pretty good - the edition of the frothed milk really made it seem like Starbucks. And if you sprinkle some nutmeg or cinnamon on top, it tastes great.
So on the cheap side, you could spend as little as $10 and have a good 15 to 20 chai tea lattes that taste almost as good as Starbucks. That's a lot of money saved!
It was worth it. I felt so stepford wife-ish, making my own lattes, frothing my own milk... Maybe I'll start cooking now.
